Welcome to Acupuncture Council of Ireland
We are the Acupuncture Council of Ireland (ACI), a not-for-profit professional body for practitioners of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in Ireland. We were formed in January 2006 and have around 500 members nationwide. Because we are not for profit, our members own the organization, and our board works on a voluntary basis. We are there to support and protect our members and the public.
We maintain a register of acupuncturists and a public directory where you can find an ACI member by name or location. Only suitably qualified and insured practitioners can become members, and every practicing member must carry professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Applicants submit an application form with case studies, and members use the letters ACI after their name.
All our members are bound by a Code of Ethics and a Code of Practice, which our Executive Committee enforces. We also expect members to keep their skills up to date each year through 30 hours of training and attendance at relevant conferences, and we run seminars and webinars, at reduced fees for members, to help them meet their continuing professional development requirements. Our register operates on a voluntary, self-regulating basis.
For members, we offer a free listing in our online directory, a members-only area of our website, a block insurance scheme with discounted professional indemnity rates, use of our logo, and free brochures and other marketing aids. For the public, we run an annual acupuncture awareness week, social media campaigns, articles and research summaries, and a podcast introducing acupuncture.
Our vision is to lead the development of acupuncture standards in Ireland, building on our independent status, collaboration and innovation. Our contact address is in Bruff, County Limerick. We are a professional membership body and do not offer appointments ourselves; to find an acupuncturist, please use the directory on our website, or contact us to ask about membership.
