Yoga Alliance is a nonprofit membership organization supporting yoga teachers, schools, and the wider yoga community around the world. Founded in 1999, we grew from a collective of teachers and practitioners who recognized the need for shared standards in yoga teacher training while preserving the practice’s traditions. We maintain a voluntary registry of yoga professionals and schools, with credentials including Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT), Registered Yoga School (RYS), and Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider (YACEP). Our work brings professional recognition together with a shared commitment to ethical teaching, clear boundaries of practice, and inclusion. Beyond credentialing, we provide educational resources, continuing education opportunities, community events, and professional support. Our directories help people find yoga teachers, schools, and continuing education providers, while our advocacy addresses issues affecting yoga professionals and access to practice. Through research, partnerships, and the work of the Yoga Alliance Foundation, we support efforts to bring yoga to communities facing barriers to participation. From our beginnings as a teacher-led initiative, our purpose has grown alongside the community we serve: to support yoga in its fullness and help more people find a place within it.

Yasodhara Ashram is a Canadian charitable yoga retreat and study centre in Kootenay Bay, British Columbia. Founded in 1963 by Swami Sivananda Radha, we are a residential spiritual community on the east shore of Kootenay Lake, on the unceded territories of the Ktunaxa and Sinixt peoples. Our approach brings yoga together with self-inquiry, writing, and reflection. Rooted in Swami Radha’s teachings, Yasodhara Yoga invites people to explore their experiences, deepen spiritual awareness, and bring what they learn into everyday life. Our women-led lineage places particular emphasis on Divine Light and the Divine Feminine. We offer guided yoga retreats, self-guided restorative stays, online courses, teacher training, and our three-month Yoga Development Course. Our Karma Yoga programs introduce selfless service as a spiritual practice, with participants learning through the shared work of caring for the Ashram. The Temple of Light welcomes people of all traditions as a place for spiritual practice and reflection. Alongside our teaching, we practice environmental stewardship and support a worldwide network of Yasodhara Yoga teachers. Whether you come for an introduction or an extended period of study, we offer space to pause, ask meaningful questions, and develop a personal spiritual practice.
